About Empower Project

Let’s learn more about Empower Project. Empower Project is managed by DADS. DADS is a community/voluntary organisation that has helped and supported families and their children on the spectrum for over 20 years.

Empower Project is a Big Lottery funded initiative. It is funded through the Reaching Out Supporting Families Programme.  This programme supports families across Northern Ireland and beyond.

The focus of the project is to support children under 12 with Autism, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia, ADHD, Tourette’s Syndrome, their parents and the wider family circle to enhance confidence and learn together to develop skills to support their children.

Empower Project has now moved into the second year of its 2-year extension programme funded by the National Lottery Community Fund NI. We continue to pilot the Social Enterprise Concept with a small cost for all the webinars we offer and other activities. There is an opportunity to take up Empower VIP yearly membership. This will allow the DADS group to sustain their current activities after the project ends in 2023. There is an expectation that funding at this later date will be harder to access.

We continue to offer the webinars virtually online. We are looking at various activities for the children to attend when the time is safe to do so. In the meantime, we offer coffee mornings/support meetings for parents. Later this year, we plan to host a major conference to celebrate the success of the Empower Project. DADS & The Empower Project has helped and supported Sunflower Support N.I.(Sunflower Support N.I. is a parents group set up in Ardboe to support families with children on the Spectrum.) Also Tourette’s Support N.I. (This is a parents group set up to support and meet the needs of children and young people with Tourette’s.) We continue to support these groups as all these families are on the same journey.
